Development Best Practices with Chapter 3 and drupalize.me

This one-day workshop gives you a comprehensive tutorial on the right way to manage your Drupal website. You'll learn about version control for your code and ways to manage changes in your data. You’ll also see how the Features module can enable you to keep your configuration changes in version control. We'll cover industry-approved deployment strategies that let you move smoothly through development, testing and live environments. You’ll get a high-level overview of how to modify the way your site looks by sub-theming, preventing hours of frustration should your original theme be updated.
Workshop is free and limited to the first 70 people to register!
What you will learn:

- Using version control with Drupal
- Maintaining development, testing and production environments
- Managing configuration changes using the Features module
- Creating a basic sub-theme
- Creating a basic module
- Understanding Drupal’s API and the hook system
Who this workshop is for:
People with previous experience using Drupal, and a basic understanding of nodes, comments, blocks, modules, themes, custom content types, fields and views. Anyone who has been thrown into maintaining a Drupal site.

Jennifer Lampton
Senior Drupal Developer
Jennifer Lea Lampton is one of Chapter Three's principal trainers. She's been involved in training hundreds of students for private clients including Stanford University, and helped found our training division. Jen also helps organize the Bay Area Drupal Camp and, in 2010, joined the organizing committee for DrupalCon San Francisco where, for the first time ever, training sessions were held the day preceding the conference. Jen has been working with Drupal since 2006 and currently maintains several modules on Drupal.org.
David Needham

David has been Drupal trainer since 2007, when he taught an introductory session on Ubercart at DrupalCampWI. David regularly leads a wide range of training sessions including Drupal in a Day, Drupal for Site Builders, Panels, Theming and Drupal 7, as well as private training with clients.

Joe Shindelar, Senior Developer and Lead Trainer for Lullabot and drupalize.me, is a web developer, artist and snowboarding enthusiast who has been building Drupal sites and participating in Drupal core development since 2006. Joe is a strong believer in the power of knowledge sharing and was attracted to Drupal and the open-source community in general because of the willingness of others to share their hard learned lessons. Keeping with the spirit Joe frequently participates in both local and national Drupal events and online at drupal.org where he goes by the name eojthebrave.
